Summer Funday July 2019.

On Saturday 6th July St. Edith’s held their first Summer Funday. Despite the unsettled weather as we set up, it did remain dry and comfortable. Many volunteers, including members of St. Edith’s and the Grimoldby Methodist Society helped with the running of the individual games.

We had the privilege of the welcoming of the Louth Detachment of Lincolnshire Army Cadets Force, led by Captain Mick Webber, Detachment Commander for Louth. The Cadets have assisted in work to the Churchyard as part of their Duke of Edinburgh Awards. On this Funday these young men did a magnificent job in organising, demonstrating and guiding the children on their assault course, and much fun was had by all.

Ready………Steady………..WAIT FOR IT!!!

The games included Target Shot Football, Bomb Darts, an Aunt Sally stall, Horseshoe Quoits, O’s and X’s, a Water Balloon game and many others. Our many visitors, young and older, had a wonderful time with one of our favourite events, ‘Parachuting Teddies’.  There were many intrepid entrants for this event, some of them making the attempt more than once. These brave teddies etc.  daringly leapt from the top of the church tower endeavouring to stay afloat for the longest time. The winner at the end of the day was none other than ‘Buzz Lightyear’. I am also pleased to say that there were no injuries sustained by these courageous entrants.

Another one bites the dust!

Another favourite was the Treasure Hunt around the church and churchyard. The carefully set questions kept everyone’s attention during their visit. The joint winners were Mrs Christine Grintalls and Mrs Yvonne Smith- well done you two.

Tom Rowley Getting ready for ACTION

The Treasure Hunt questionnaires and the games score cards were available by the Prayer Tree stationed along the main path to the Church. Visitors were encouraged to write their own prayer requests onto paper leaves which were then tied to the tree. The Prayer Tree was then taken into Church and the prayers was included in the following Sunday morning service.

Great Day, from Max

We would wish to thank all who helped with our very first Funday, and especially Freda and her team who provided such excellent refreshments to all, and we hope to see you all again next year.
